AI Voice Detector: Check If a Voice Is AI or Human
An overview of SpotAClone as an AI or human voice detector, what its three results mean, and what to do next.
A voice can now be faked from a few seconds of someone's real speech. If a recording asks you for money, an OTP or an urgent decision, you can run it through an AI voice detector before you act. SpotAClone analyses a voice note or call recording and tells you whether it is likely AI-generated, likely a real human voice, or whether it cannot be sure.
The free tier gives you 3 checks a day with no signup. Upload a file or record up to 60 seconds below.

Stay safe either way
- Call the person back on a number you already know, not the one that called you.
- Never share an OTP, PIN or UPI PIN, whoever seems to be asking.
- Agree a family code word that only your family knows, and ask for it.
- In India, report fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
A ‘likely real’ result does not prove who is speaking.

What an AI or human voice detector actually does
Speech generators build a voice from patterns they learned. Even when a cloned voice sounds natural to us, it can carry small acoustic traces that real vocal cords and real rooms do not produce. An AI generated voice detector looks for those traces and weighs them up. It does not recognise who is speaking, and it cannot read the speaker's intentions. It answers one narrow question: does this audio look more like synthetic speech or more like a person talking? For a plain-language explanation of the method, read how voice deepfake detection works.
The three results, and how to read them
- Likely AI: the recording shows signs commonly left by voice generators. Treat the message as suspicious and verify through another channel before you do anything.
- Likely real: we did not find strong signs of AI generation. This does not prove who is speaking. A real person can still be a scammer, and a real voice can be edited or taken out of context.
- Unsure: the evidence is too weak either way. We would rather say so than give you a confident answer we cannot back up.
Every result is decision support, not proof. It should add to your judgement, not replace it.
Built for phone audio and Indian languages
Many general-purpose detectors are trained mostly on clean, studio-quality English. Real scam audio is rarely like that. It arrives as a compressed WhatsApp voice note, a call recording made on a cheap phone, or speech in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali or another Indian language mixed with English. SpotAClone is built with that kind of audio in mind. It works for people in India, the US, the UK, the UAE, Singapore and elsewhere. If you prefer to read in Hindi, see the Hindi page.
Is an AI voice detector legit? Know the limits
Any detector, including this one, can be wrong. Results are less reliable when:
- the clip is very short (a few seconds of speech)
- the audio has been compressed heavily or forwarded many times
- there is loud background noise, music or several people talking
- the voice was made with a newer generator the detector has not seen before
In these cases you may get Unsure, and false results in either direction are possible. That is why the next step matters more than the score.
What to do next
- Call the person back on a number you already know. Do not use the number that sent the message.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, UPI PIN or password. Banks never ask for them.
- Agree a family code word that a caller must say before anyone sends money.
- In India, report fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. In the US you can report at reportfraud.ftc.gov. In the UK, contact Action Fraud. Elsewhere, contact your local police or national fraud reporting service.
If money has already left your account, read what to do if you sent money to a scammer.
Privacy
Your audio is analysed and deleted immediately. It is never stored. Nothing you upload is kept after the result is shown.
More ways to check
If you think someone has copied a specific person's voice, the voice clone detector page covers that case. For a message that arrived on WhatsApp, the WhatsApp voice note checker shows how to get the file out of the app. Need more than 3 checks a day? See pricing. Developers can add checks to their own apps with the VoxShield API.
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI voice detector free?
Yes. You can run 3 checks a day for free without creating an account. Paid plans on the pricing page are for people and teams who need more checks.
Is an AI voice detector legit, or just guesswork?
A detector looks for statistical traces that speech generators tend to leave in audio. It is a useful signal, but not proof. That is why SpotAClone returns Unsure when the evidence is weak instead of forcing an answer, and why you should always verify through a second channel.
Which AI voice detector is best?
There is no single best tool for every situation. Ask whether a detector was built for the audio you actually have. Many general-purpose detectors are trained mostly on clean studio English, while SpotAClone is built for phone-quality audio and Indian languages as well as English.
What audio formats can I check?
WhatsApp voice notes (.opus or .ogg), .m4a, .mp3, .wav, .webm, .aac and .amr files up to 15 MB. You can also record up to 60 seconds from your microphone.
Do you keep my recording?
No. Audio is analysed and deleted immediately. It is never stored.
