WhatsApp Voice Note AI Checker
Step-by-step instructions for saving a WhatsApp voice note on Android or iPhone and checking whether it is likely AI-generated.
A voice message from a relative's new number. A boss asking for an urgent transfer. A "bank officer" sending a voice note instead of calling. WhatsApp voice messages are easy to fake with AI and easy to forward, and they feel personal. That makes them a favourite tool for scams. This page shows you how to get the voice note out of WhatsApp as a file and check it.
The free tier gives you 3 checks a day with no signup. WhatsApp's .opus and .ogg files are accepted as they are.

Stay safe either way
- Call the person back on a number you already know, not the one that called you.
- Never share an OTP, PIN or UPI PIN, whoever seems to be asking.
- Agree a family code word that only your family knows, and ask for it.
- In India, report fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
A ‘likely real’ result does not prove who is speaking.
Audio is analysed and deleted immediately. Never stored. Privacy
How to save a WhatsApp voice note as a file
Menus vary by app version and phone model, so the labels you see may differ slightly. These are the general steps.
Android
- Open the chat and long-press the voice note until it is selected.
- Tap Share (sometimes under the three-dot menu). If you only see Forward, check the three-dot menu again.
- Choose your browser to open this page, or save the file to your phone's Files or Downloads.
- Come back here, tap the upload area and pick the file. Android voice notes are usually .opus files.
iPhone
- Open the chat and long-press the voice note.
- Tap Forwardthen the Share icon. On some versions Share appears directly in the menu.
- Choose Save to Files.
- Return to this page in Safari or another browser, tap the upload area and pick the file from Files.
You can also upload a call recording from your phone's call recorder, or an audio file taken from a screen recording, in .m4a, .mp3, .wav, .webm, .aac or .amr format up to 15 MB. If nothing else works, play the message aloud and use Record to capture up to 60 seconds. Re-recording adds room noise, so results are more likely to be Unsure.
How to tell if a voice note is AI: read the result
- Likely AI: the voice message shows signs typical of AI-generated speech. Do not reply with money, codes or documents. Verify first.
- Likely real: no strong signs of AI were found. This does not prove who recorded it. A real voice note can still come from a scammer or a hacked account.
- Unsure: there was not enough evidence for a confident call. Treat the message as unverified.
An AI voice note detector gives decision support, not proof. For warning signs you can spot without any tool, read how to tell if a voice note is AI.
Why WhatsApp audio is tricky
WhatsApp compresses voice notes, and every forward can degrade them further. Short messages of a few seconds, noisy backgrounds and voices from newer generators all make detection harder. SpotAClone is built for this kind of compressed phone audio, in Indian languages as well as English. Many general-purpose detectors are trained mostly on clean studio English. Even so, false results are possible. This applies whether you are in India, the US, the UK, the UAE or Singapore. Hindi speakers can read the Hindi page.
What to do after checking
- Call the person back on the number you already have saved. Do not use the number that sent the voice note.
- Never share an OTP, PIN or UPI PIN, whatever the message says. Banks never ask for them.
- Set up a family code word for urgent money requests.
- In India, report at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. In the US, use reportfraud.ftc.gov. In the UK, contact Action Fraud. Elsewhere, contact your local police or national fraud reporting service.
Privacy
Your voice note is analysed and deleted immediately. It is never stored, and nothing is sent to WhatsApp or the sender.

Frequently asked questions
Can I upload a WhatsApp voice note directly?
Yes. WhatsApp voice notes are usually .opus or .ogg files, and both are accepted. Save or share the voice note out of WhatsApp as a file, then choose it in the checker. Files can be up to 15 MB.
I cannot find the Share option for the voice note. What now?
Menus vary by WhatsApp version and phone. Try long-pressing the voice note and looking for Share, Forward or the three-dot menu. If you still cannot export it, play it aloud and use the Record option to capture up to 60 seconds, or upload a screen recording or call recording file instead. Re-recording adds noise, so you are more likely to get Unsure.
How can I tell if a voice note is AI without a tool?
Watch for pressure and secrecy, requests for money or codes, a new number, and a sender who avoids a live call. Then call the person back on a number you already know. A detector is an extra signal, not a replacement for that call.
Does WhatsApp or the sender find out I checked?
No. You save the file and upload it yourself, and nothing is sent back to WhatsApp or the sender. The audio is analysed and deleted immediately and is never stored.
What does Likely real mean for a voice message?
It means we found no strong signs of AI generation. It does not prove who recorded the message. Still verify any request for money.
