Stay safe either way
- Call the person back on a number you already know, not the one that called you.
- Never share an OTP, PIN or UPI PIN, whoever seems to be asking.
- Agree a family code word that only your family knows, and ask for it.
- In India, report fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
A ‘likely real’ result does not prove who is speaking.
Audio is analysed and deleted immediately. Never stored. Privacy
Getting the audio file
- WhatsApp on Android: long-press the voice note, tap Share, and pick it from your browser's file picker. It's usually an
.opusfile. - WhatsApp on iPhone: long-press, Forward, Share, Save to Files, then choose it here. Menus vary by app version. Step-by-step guide.
- Phone call: upload your call recording if you have one, or play the voice on speaker and use Record a clip.
What the three results mean
- Likely AI: the voice shows clear signs of being generated or cloned. Treat any request in it as suspicious.
- Likely real: no clear signs of AI generation. This does not prove who is speaking; real people run scams too.
- Unsure: the clip is too short, noisy, compressed or unusual to judge. Verify by calling back on a number you know.

Frequently asked questions
How does SpotAClone tell if a voice is AI-generated?
It analyses the audio for acoustic patterns that voice-cloning and text-to-speech systems tend to leave behind, using models built for Indian languages over phone-quality audio. It then gives one of three answers: likely AI, likely real, or unsure.
Is it accurate?
No detector is perfect. Short clips, heavy compression, background noise and brand-new voice generators can all fool detection. That is why SpotAClone says 'unsure' when the evidence is weak instead of guessing, and why you should always verify by calling the person back on a number you already know.
Does a 'likely real' result mean the caller is who they say they are?
No. It only means the voice does not show clear signs of AI generation. A real human can still be a scammer, and a real voice can be someone pretending to be your relative or a bank officer. Always verify identity separately.
Do you keep my audio?
No. Audio is analysed and deleted immediately. It is never stored and never used to train models.
Can I check a WhatsApp voice note?
Yes. Share or export the voice note to a file (.opus or .ogg on most phones) and upload it here, or play it on speaker and record it with the microphone button for up to 60 seconds.
