Deepfake Audio Checker: Is This Audio AI Generated?
Covers checking audio from calls, voice notes and online media for deepfake speech, how to read the result, and how to share or report responsibly.
A clip of a politician, a celebrity endorsing an investment, a "leaked" call, a voice note forwarded into a family group: deepfake audio now travels well beyond scam calls. Before you believe it, share it or act on it, you can run it through a deepfake audio checker and see whether the speech shows signs of AI generation.
SpotAClone returns one of three results: Likely AI, Likely real or Unsure. The free tier gives you 3 checks a day with no account.

Stay safe either way
- Call the person back on a number you already know, not the one that called you.
- Never share an OTP, PIN or UPI PIN, whoever seems to be asking.
- Agree a family code word that only your family knows, and ask for it.
- In India, report fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
A ‘likely real’ result does not prove who is speaking.

What you can check
The checker accepts .opus, .ogg, .m4a, .mp3, .wav, .webm, .aac and .amr files up to 15 MB. You can also record up to 60 seconds from your microphone. This covers most of the places deepfake audio comes from:
- Calls: recordings from your phone's call recorder.
- Messages: voice notes from WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal. See the WhatsApp voice note checker for how to export them.
- Media: audio saved from a video, reel, podcast or news clip. Trim to a section where one person speaks clearly.
Is this audio AI generated? How to read the result
- Likely AI: the speech carries traces commonly produced by voice generators. Do not forward it as genuine. Look for the original source.
- Likely real: we found no strong signs of synthetic speech. That does not make the content true or prove who is speaking. Real audio can be cut, re-ordered or presented out of context.
- Unsure: the clip did not give enough evidence. Often this is because it is short, noisy or heavily re-compressed.
We analyse the voice only. A video can pair a real voice with manipulated visuals, so a voice result does not cover the picture.
Why media clips are harder
Audio that has been downloaded, re-uploaded and forwarded is compressed again at each step. Music, crowd noise and overlapping speakers hide the details a deepfake voice detector relies on, and newer generators keep changing what the traces look like. Expect more Unsure results on this kind of audio, and accept that false results are possible either way. If you want to know what the analysis looks for, read how voice deepfake detection works.
Indian languages, global audience
Many general-purpose detectors are trained mostly on studio-quality English. SpotAClone is built for phone-quality speech, including Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam alongside English. It works for people in India as well as the US, UK, UAE and Singapore. There is also a Hindi page.
Before you share or act
- Find the original source: an official account, a known outlet, or the person directly.
- If the clip asks you for money, investment or personal details, stop. Call the person or organisation back on a number you already know.
- Never share an OTP, PIN or UPI PIN. Banks never ask for them.
- Agree a family code word so relatives can verify an urgent request.
- Report fraud. In India, use cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. In the US, use reportfraud.ftc.gov. In the UK, contact Action Fraud. Elsewhere, contact your local police or national fraud reporting service.

Frequently asked questions
Is this deepfake audio detection free?
Yes. You can run 3 checks a day online for free with no signup. More checks are available on paid plans.
Can I check audio from a video?
Yes, if you can save the audio as a file. Supported formats are .opus, .ogg, .m4a, .mp3, .wav, .webm, .aac and .amr up to 15 MB. Trim it to the part where the person is speaking clearly.
Does the checker look at the video or image?
No. SpotAClone analyses speech only. A video can have a real voice with fake visuals, or the other way round, so a voice result says nothing about the pictures.
Can I use the result as proof that a clip is fake?
No. The result is decision support, not proof. If a clip matters legally or publicly, treat our result as one input and rely on official sources and professional forensic review.
What happens to the audio I upload?
It is analysed and deleted immediately. It is never stored.
